Baking Loon !

Yes...I've officially morphed into the baking loon that I'm so famous for being ! ! ! !
This year I was unable to do my holiday baking before the holidays so I determined that I'd just have to do "New Year's baking" instead !
Surprisingly, a lot of my friends were happy about this because they see it as a last bit of fun just when it seems that the holidays are done. Not only that, but they made the very good point that with all of the baked goods that they receive during the holidays that they get burned out and can't possibly eat everything they receive.
Huh.
These things I never thought of ! ! !
Makes me think the concept of "New Year's baking" may have to become my new tradition.
After all, I am also known for being one to buck tradition...
And considering that my list of cookies (as well as the list of who receives them) seem s to grow every year, maybe this will help to take some of the pressure around the holidays off my shoulders.

To give you an idea of the size of this annual project....
This year I have:
20 varieties of cookies to bake
1 type of candy to make
pretzels to cover in chocolate
and about 35 individuals receiving plus 2 large plates that will be going to mine and J's jobs.
(Oh, and about 1/2 of these individual order will have to be shipped out...)

With an order like this I'm cranking out an average of 110 cookies per variety which will come to 2200, or so, cookies...
And I've got 3 bags of pretzels to dip in chocolate...
And lord knows how much candy I'll have to crank out...

Busy, busy, busy ! ! ! !

Good lord...that's a lot of cookies. I can only imagine how much unsalted butter you must buy every year.

I used to dipped pretzels, marshmallows and graham cracker halves, but I found that the recipents of my baked goods either didn't eat them or just bought the store bought brands.

What is your fav New Year's cookie? Out of all of my stuff I like the Gingersnaps the best.

    Yes...a lot of cookies indeed ! :)
I actually don't use unsalted butter....I don't even use real butter....but there is a LOT of fake butter that has to be bought. As of my count yesterday I still need to buy 8 more boxes if I want to finish up.

    Let's see...
    Fav cookie....
I'm thinking the Neapolitan is my fav....though one of the new additions this year - the Spumoni - is coming in a VERY strong 2nd.
    :)

So do you still holiday baking or have you thrown in the proverbial towel?

If you want, I can always send you a sample of this year's batch of cookies. :)
